Affordable EEG, Actionable Insights: An Open Dataset and Evaluation Framework for Epilepsy Patient Stratification

arXiv — cs.LGWednesday, November 5, 2025 at 5:00:00 AM
A new open dataset named NEUROSKY-EPI has been introduced, offering single-channel, consumer-grade EEG data specifically from epilepsy patients in South Asia. This dataset aims to improve access to clinical EEG by providing affordable and accessible data for research and patient care. Alongside the dataset, a patient-stratification pipeline called EmbedCluster has been developed to enhance the analysis of EEG data. EmbedCluster improves EEGNet models by incorporating contextual information, which may lead to better patient stratification outcomes. The combination of NEUROSKY-EPI and EmbedCluster represents a step forward in leveraging affordable EEG technology and actionable insights for epilepsy management. This initiative addresses both data availability and analytical challenges in epilepsy care within the South Asian region. The dataset and pipeline together provide a framework for evaluating and improving epilepsy patient stratification using consumer-grade EEG devices.
