ActiTect: A Generalizable Machine Learning Pipeline for REM Sleep Behavior Disorder Screening through Standardized Actigraphy
PositiveArtificial Intelligence
ActiTect is a newly developed machine learning pipeline aimed at screening for REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (iRBD), which is a critical early indicator of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies. The study, published on November 13, 2025, highlights the tool's ability to analyze actigraphy recordings effectively, achieving an impressive AUROC score of 0.95 during model development with a cohort of 78 individuals. Further validation on a blinded local test set of 31 individuals and two independent external cohorts of 113 and 57 individuals confirmed its generalizability, with AUROC scores of 0.86 and 0.84, respectively. This automated approach not only streamlines the screening process but also holds promise for large-scale applications, potentially transforming early diagnosis and management of conditions associated with iRBD.
