The introduction of a decentralized retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) system marks a pivotal shift in AI data management, addressing the inefficiencies and privacy concerns associated with centralized architectures. This innovative system allows foundation models to access information directly from data owners, who retain control over their sources. A key feature is its reliability scoring mechanism, which dynamically assesses the quality of responses from various data sources, ensuring that only the most reliable information is prioritized during retrieval. This scoring process is secured through blockchain-based smart contracts, providing a transparent and tamper-proof record of reliability. Evaluated using Llama models in simulated environments, the decentralized system achieved a notable 10.7% performance improvement compared to its centralized counterparts, highlighting its potential to enhance retrieval accuracy and response quality in AI applications.
