Google Messages is preparing a new trick to get your friends and family to switch to RCS
positiveTechnology
Google is cooking up a new feature in its Messages app that’ll nudge your contacts to switch to RCS (that’s the fancier, more modern alternative to SMS). Buried in the app’s code, there are hints of an invite system—so if you’re tired of grainy photos and broken group chats, you might soon have a way to recruit others to join the RCS revolution.
Editor’s Note: RCS has been slowly replacing SMS for years, but adoption is still spotty because not everyone’s on board. If Google makes it easier to rope in friends and family, it could finally push RCS into the mainstream—meaning better messaging for everyone (well, everyone on Android, at least). No more "Did you get my blurry cat pic?" texts.
