After outcry, L.A. restricts duplexes in Pacific Palisades

In response to local pushback, Los Angeles is tightening rules on duplex construction in the upscale Pacific Palisades neighborhood, siding with residents wary of increased density. This comes after Governor Newsom’s move to relax state housing laws, which had sparked concerns about overdevelopment. Interestingly, though, data reveals that many homeowners in the area are actually warming up to accessory dwelling units (ADUs)—smaller, secondary homes on their properties—as a compromise for adding housing without drastically changing the neighborhood’s character.
