Klimt painting second most expensive artwork sold at auction

A painting by Gustav Klimt, titled Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer, has sold for $236.4 million at a Sotheby’s auction, making it the second most expensive artwork ever sold at auction. The painting, created between 1914 and 1916, depicts Elisabeth Lederer, a young heiress and daughter of Klimt's patrons, dressed in a Chinese robe. The artwork was looted by the Nazis and nearly destroyed in a fire during World War II.
