Apple iOS 26.5 Introduces Cross-Platform Encrypted RCS Messaging with Notable Security Caveat
Apple has launched iOS 26.5, featuring end-to-end encrypted Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging for iPhone users, now extended to iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. This update enhances communication security, allowing encrypted messaging between iPhone and Android devices. Users can verify E2E encryption via a new lock icon in chats. However, the feature is currently in beta, raising concerns about potential security vulnerabilities. The update also includes improvements to the Maps app and various bug fixes ahead of the upcoming WWDC event.
